Police track the movement of vehicle of 2 child-kidnapping suspects from the monitoring screen. In the same time, 2 suspects use their mobile devices for coordination with other co-workers and victim parent for ransom delivery and transportation out of town. All online services, though those are anonymous, can be tracked down by associated geo-location data sent by mobile devices. By the end, police locate hidden place of suspects and victim eventually, and successfully arrest suspects and save victim. The above is not a scenery plot from CIS – TV series. Actually it is a true story in an Asian country.
At this moment, GPS tracking capability is one of default functions in all kinds of mobile device, smart phone and tablet, and by different platforms, iOS, Android, Windows RT and Blackberry. Before only mobile network service provider could provide subscriber’s geo location data, and now such data is part of service message by lots of mobile online services, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, twitter…etc., and can be available by LI system on packet data network for criminal investigation.
Location-base Service (LBS) is now a most popular one on Internet. The geo location data can be obtained by APPs either from GPS sensor inside mobile device or from network service provider. Apps of social network system or microblog will use this data for geo location stamp of subscriber, and also provide commercials of nearby shops to subscriber through push message channel. Especially the latter service is also one of important revenue sources.
The geo data from LBS is different from that from base station of mobile network service provider, because it is usually in the form of GPS coordinator or just plain text. The geo data from mobile network is sometimes proprietary form, and need to be converted into standard form. On the other hand, geo data from base station is usually deduced by triangle or 2-point calculation from location of different radio antennas. Sometimes it may not be as precise as that directly from mobile device.
In lawful interception operation, GPS coordinator can be loaded into AVL or Google map system for online location tracking, whereas text data can be used for behavior analysis with associated message and action of crime. This geo location data become more and more critical for LEA during criminal investigation period.
In order to provide such critical information, Decision Group has upgraded all current lawful interception system on packet data network with availability of geo location data from mobile APPs recently. With such enhancement, law enforcement staff can easily get location data of criminal suspects through mobile communication, track the movement by map, and analyze message and action by the related geological scope in order to identify the target background and motive.
Now Decision Group LI system can extract location data, by GPS coordinator or plain text, directly from mobile APPs, and display it in the monitoring screen for criminal investigation. LEA can also load these Geo data from DG LI system into AVL map or Google map system for location tracking. Geo data can be intercepted by DG system if GPS tracking function is on in the mobile device or APP delivers location stamp by subscriber. Geo data form will highly depend on how APP manages it and delivers it. That’s why Geo data may be GPS coordinator value or plain text after it is intercepted.
“As a market leader, it is the major goal for Decision Group to provide the most critical criminal data from packet data network for law enforcement staff.” said Casper Chang, CEO of Decision Group. “Though it is a small enhancement in our LI system, it is big breakthrough for LEA staff to take criminal investigation. LEA staff can easily locate movement and hidden places of criminals and enforce such crimes.”
Decision Group provides consulting service on planning of lawful interception and cyber intelligence to our partners and customer. With lots of deployment experience in different countries, DG consultants will provide streamline lawful interception process from warrant authorization to data collection on telecom networks, and fully meet global and state mandates and regulation.
Decision Group also clearly understands that localization of the above solution is critical for LEA of each state to carry out anti-cyber threat operation. That’s the reason Decision Group provides skill transference/shift program for the demand of LEA. We provide partner training program to local reliable partner involved in LI or Cyber Intelligence project of LEA for the above purpose.
